Clarissa's best friend Sam is one of a kind. He's very close to Clarissa, but they're not boyfriend-girlfriend. Whenever he stops by to visit, he climbs in through the window so he won't have to deal with Clarissa's parents or Ferguson.

Sam's basically an outsider. Even though he's popular, he values his privacy. He'd rather be in a rock band than on a football team. His dad's a sportswriter, but Sam doesn't like sports. Still, Sam and his dad get along great.

Although Sam doesn't always understand Clarissa, he shares her fondness for weirdness. Once they even had a contest to see who could make the best "G.I. Pie," which is made from melting G.I. Joe dolls.
