What happened at Copenhagen 2009?
Leaders from around the world met in Copenhagen on 7th to 18th December for a discussion on climate change and the measures to be taken.

What is Climate change?
'Climate change' is the name scientists use to describe any long-term change in the Earth's temperature and weather patterns over long periods of time.

Today, scientists believe that in the last 150 years, Earth has become hotter than it has been in over 400,000 years. Why is our Earth becoming hotter? This is due to the rising amounts of greenhouse gases, the main culprit being carbon dioxide (CO2), released into the atmosphere.

This layer of gases plays an important role in keeping the Earth at the right temperature to allow life to exist. It is also commonly known as the 'greenhouse effect'. Due to various human activities, the layer
of gasses has become much thicker as more carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases are trapped in the atmosphere.

In order to stop drastic climate changes, we need to find ways to cut back on how much CO2 we release into the atmosphere. You can do small things like turning off lights when they are not in use, buying locally grown food and products, using public transportation instead of driving, and recycling everything you can to be used again. All these small things can really add up to a great deal when more people do them!

Remember, you're never too small to make a BIG difference!
