Earth Hour - Project Lantern

What is Vote Earth all about?
You might remember Earth Hour, the "lights out" event that gets everyone talking about climate change. Well, in December this year, leaders from all over the world will meet in Copenhagen for the United Nations Copenhagen Climate Change Conference (COP15). The leaders will talk, discuss and hopefully agree on emissions reduction targets in order to save our planet and avoid drastic climate changes.

In partnership with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Nickelodeon is giving kids (in other words you!) a voice on this important issue of climate change. WWF would like you to make a simple lantern to Vote Earth. By making a lantern, you are showing leaders at COP15 that you want to support and save the earth. You are also telling them that you – the future leaders and caretakers of our planet – have a BIG voice in making a difference for the environment.

How can you Vote Earth?
Lanterns are symbols of good luck and long life. You can Vote Earth simply by creating a paper lantern using recycled materials and send it the below stated address by 10 December 2009 to make your vote count!

Through your lanterns, WWF and Nickelodeon hopes to represent the vote for Earth from 1.83 billion kids around the world. This is a special opportunity to be part of the most important vote in history – the vote for our Earth’s future. This is a way to send YOUR message to our leaders that our Earth is worth saving.

Join kids around the world to make your vote count today.

Instructions
1. Make sure your name, age, and country are written on the outside of the lantern on the same side as your message in nice clear writing.
2. Gently fold the lantern approximately in half lengthwise on one of the cuts so it folds easily. Then fold the detached handle in half lengthwise too.
3. Find a sturdy envelope and write the address listed above on the front in nice clear writing.
4. Put your lantern gently inside the envelope with the handle resting on top then seal the envelope.
5. Take it to the post office and mail it to Copenhagen!
6. VOTE EARTH will be accepting lanterns until 10 December 2009 so make sure you post it with enough time to travel to Copenhagen by regular post. It could take as long as two weeks depending on where you live! All lanterns sent to Copenhagen will be recycled after.
